Job Description

The Popal Group is a growing, family-driven boutique hospitality group setting the standard for upscale dining and cocktail experiences in Washington, DC. One of our flagship restaurants, Pascual, celebrates Mexican cuisine and culture through thoughtful food, hospitality, and a bar program with a deep respect for agave spirits—particularly mezcal. We take pride in creating unforgettable moments for our guests through exceptional service, thoughtfully crafted beverages, and a warm, inviting ambiance.

Job Overview:

We are looking for a skilled Bartender who thrives on guest engagement, takes pride in crafting both classic and innovative cocktails, and brings a genuine interest in mezcal and agave-based spirits to their work. This role requires strong mixology fundamentals, attention to detail, and a desire to continuously learn and deepen product knowledge, particularly within the mezcal category.

The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with both the bar and kitchen teams to deliver a seamless, elevated guest experience in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining professionalism, warmth, and consistency behind the bar.

Responsibilities:

  • Exceed guests’ expectations by delivering an authentic, friendly, and professional bar experience in an upscale setting.

  • Recommend and prepare a diverse range of beverages, including cocktails, mocktails, wines, and beers, following established recipes and guest preferences.

  • Execute an exciting menu of handcrafted cocktails with precision and creativity.

  • Participate in the research and development of new cocktails in collaboration with the bar team.

  • Engage with guests by making recommendations, answering questions, and providing knowledge of our menu and beverage offerings.

  • Maintain an organized, clean, and well-stocked bar, ensuring all supplies, glassware, garnishes, and liquors are readily available.

  • Accurately handle cash and credit transactions, process payments, and operate the POS system efficiently.

  • Collaborate with the kitchen and serving staff to ensure timely and accurate order delivery while upholding quality standards.

  • Monitor and adhere to all relevant health and safety regulations, ensuring a clean and safe working environment.

  • Upsell and promote new products, special events, and seasonal offerings to enhance the guest experience and maximize revenue.

  • Maintain a professional and friendly demeanor, even during high-volume service periods.

Skills & Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years as a bartender in an upscale, craft cocktail-focused establishment.

  • Mixology Expertise: Strong knowledge of classic and modern cocktails, spirits, liqueurs, wines, and beers, with the ability to craft innovative drinks.

  • Communication & Hospitality: Excellent interpersonal skills with a passion for engaging with guests and providing outstanding service.

  • Organization & Efficiency: Ability to multitask, maintain cleanliness, and work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

  • Attention to Detail: Commitment to high standards in drink preparation, presentation, and overall service.

  • Technical Skills: Basic math skills for POS transactions and cocktail preparation, as well as a solid understanding of health and safety regulations.

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, and exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours; lift up to 30 lbs.

  • Schedule Flexibility: Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive pay

  • 401(k) plan

  • Dental and health insurance after a qualifying period

  • Daily family meals

If you are a passionate bartender with a dedication to delivering exceptional experiences in an upscale dining and cocktail environment, we’d love to hear from you!
